It's official—Sam Haggerty will remain in the AL West, but not with Seattle. According to MLB insider Jon Heyman, the versatile utility player has signed a minor league contract with the Texas Rangers. While it’s a fresh start for Haggerty, Mariners supporters will surely be hoping he doesn’t find too much success against his former team.

For those who have followed Seattle over the past few seasons, Haggerty was more than just a roster piece. He embodied the team’s high-energy, unpredictable style of play, making an impact in multiple ways—stealing bases, playing various positions, and delivering clutch hits. Mariners fans will certainly remember his electrifying inside-the-park home run, which fittingly came against the Rangers.

Haggerty’s standout season was in 2022, when he played a crucial role in Seattle’s long-awaited return to the postseason. Though he never started more than 49 games in a season, his presence was always felt when he was in the lineup. However, 2024 proved to be a challenging year, as an early-season slump led to a stint in Triple-A Tacoma, where his season was cut short by a torn ACL in May.

Seattle ultimately non-tendered Haggerty, officially ending his tenure with the team. While a return on a minor league deal could have been possible, both sides have opted to move in different directions.

Now, Haggerty will have an opportunity to work his way back to the majors with Texas. It won’t be an easy road, but if there’s one thing fans know about him, it’s that he thrives on proving people wrong. While it’s always tough to see a fan-favorite move on, Mariners fans will undoubtedly keep an eye on his journey.
