According to a source, The New York Mets are keeping a familiar arm in their bullpen, re-signing veteran right-handed reliever Ryne Stanek to a one-year deal. The 33-year-old brings postseason pedigree and a track record of reliability, something the Mets hope will solidify their bullpen depth heading into the 2025 season.

Stanek spent three years as a key cog in the Houston Astros' bullpen before being dealt to the Seattle Mariners before the 2024 trade deadline. At the time of the trade, he was sporting a 4.38 ERA across 46 appearances. His tenure in Seattle was short-lived, as the Mariners shipped him to the Mets later that summer in another deadline move.

His regular-season stint in Queens was a mixed bag—he struggled with consistency, posting a 6.06 ERA over 17 games. However, Stanek flipped the script when October arrived. He became a crucial piece of the Mets’ playoff bullpen, delivering in high-pressure situations and reinforcing his reputation as a battle-tested postseason arm.

Playoff reliability is what the Mets are banking on for 2025. While his regular-season numbers in New York weren’t ideal, his ability to step up under the bright lights of the postseason cannot be ignored. Throughout his career, he has proven to be a dependable option when the stakes are at their highest, logging key innings for multiple playoff-bound teams.

For the Mets, this signing is about more than just regular-season production. They’re investing in a veteran arm with deep October experience—someone who can weather the grind of a long season and be ready when it matters most.
